Research Team Molecular Modeling

Our fields of activity at a glance

1. Protein structure theory

  • Structure-function relationship of helical membrane proteins
  • Knowledge-based prediction of the tertiary structure of helical membrane proteins (DFG, HI 1502)
  • Permanent vs. transient interactions between biopolymers in modular function (SFB 740, B6)

2. G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs)

  • MD simulation of rhodopsin activation (Klaus-Peter Hofmann’s ERC: TUDOR)
  • Structural modelling of GPCR-G protein coupling (SFB 740, B6)
  • Modelling of various GPCRs and their ligand interactions (DFG, HI 1502)

3. Ribosome

  • Combining computational methods with Cryo-Electron Microscopy (EM) to obtain high resolution models of specific eukaryotic proteins and rRNAs

4. Alzheimer Disease

  • Dismerisation of the transmembrane domain of the amyloid precursor protein (APP) and of other substrates of Gamma-secretase
  • Modelling of the transmembrane domain of the Beta-secretase (BACE)
